Mrs. Crockford - Sixth Grade
I am Mrs. Crockford and this is my tenth year teaching in Stratford. I have a bilingual multiple subject teaching credential, a Masters in Education and a reading specialist credential. One of the many unique things about Stratford is that the community is small but very connected; the school is central and there exists a great interaction between students, parents and school. I hope to use this forum to continue to foster this home/school connection so vital for our students' education.

The California State Standards (www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/) guide instruction in the eighth grade, but this is a year of transition into the new California Common Core Standards. The CCCS will allow for a more in-depth study of subject matter. These standards also focus on preparing students to excel in the working world by solving real world problems and by delving into global issues. Central Union District has been preparing teachers this year to transition into the CCCS in writing and mathematics. At the end of trimester 2, for example, all students took the CCCS-based writing (argumentative essays). We have also been working in teams to prepare students for the Common Core mathematics standards. I encourage you to visit the California Department of Education website to look at the present standards as well as to familiarize yourself with the new Common Core Standards (www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/). You will be able to compare the current standards with the new complexity of instruction the students will be receiving.
